Details of LG V10
Year after year, smartphone makers tend to introduce new ideas and technologies to implement on their latest devices such as curved displays, dual cameras, rear buttons, modular designs, front flash, and so on. Today, we get to try out the LG V10 Android smartphone, which happens to hold two screens and two selfie camera sensors.
LG seems to have shifted its focus on creating an Android smartphone that can hold on its own against accidental drops and impacts, while not losing its charming looks. With my first glance, I knew this device can take some beating, and will not bother users to invest on a “shockproof” case that not only takes away the true looks of the device but also make it look bulky.
Thanks to the rough exterior, the LG V10 has a very good grip to hold, so you don’t need to worry about any accidental drops or slips. It’s worth noting that the V10 is one of the few smartphones to carry the MIL-STD-810G shock resistant military standard certification, but unfortunately, not dust or waterproof resistant as other competitors offer. The smartphone possesses strong stainless steel frame and silicon bumpers around the device. You will also find the traditional LG rear-volume/rear power button design on the LG V10 too.
Display and Second Screen
The LG V10 holds a massive 5.7-inch IPS display, with 1440 x 2560 resolution. The screen appeared to be great, as I have experienced with an LG G4 device. The screen consists of two layers that help to protect against bumps and drops.
That said, there is an extra second screen set beside the selfie camera area. The function of this display is to provide you access your favorite apps as quick access, display smartphone activity, app notifications, battery status, and time, even when the main screen is turned off. This feature is similar to the Samsung Galaxy smartphones with Edge screens. Even when you turn on the camera, all your camera controls appear on the second screen.
Dual Selfie Cameras
Speaking of cameras, the LG V10 also has a pair of selfie cameras- one sensor is used to shoot a standard close up selfie, and the other is for wide-angle selfies. The wide-angle snapper can really capture at wide focal ranges. Both the front cameras hold 5MP sensors. The selfies appeared to be good, although it sometimes feels like the images are heavily edited.
The rear camera holds a 16MP camera, with an impressive F1.8 aperture lens (similar to the LG G4), and can record 4K videos. Other features include manual video mode and video editing.
The LG V10 comes powered by a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor, combined with a massive 4GB RAM and Android Lollipop 5.1.1. The UI appeared to be surprisingly snappy with no noticeable lags. The device is sold with a choice of 32GB/64GB internal storage models and MicroSD card expansion support. We did an Antutu Benchmark v6.0.1 test, and got a score of 53418 points.
The LG V10 comes with a massive 3000 mAh battery, which is removable by design. Just by surfing the internet, chats, camera snaps and selfies, streaming videos, I was able to last the V10 for almost the entire day.
If you’re looking for a flagship smartphone that can withstand the everyday-bumps and drops, without compromising in performance, features and functionality, then look no further than the LG V10. The second screen may not be always handy when the smartphone is in use, but is pretty good to see notifications when the device is on standby. The wide-selfie mode is also a good add on for all those crazy people who love to take group selfies.
Positive: Second Screen shows notifications and time, dual selfie cameras offer standard and wide angle shots, snappy performance, shock resistant
Negative: Selfie camera quality appears to be average sometimes, Average battery life
