Just over a month ago, we had reviewed the Samsung Gear S2 Sport, which is impressive for its build quality, design, and unique control features that stand out of the competition. We have been asked repeatedly by users, as to how different is the Gear S2 Classic model when compared to the Sports version.
Thanks to Samsung, we got a chance to check out the classic smart time piece.
When I reviewed the Gear S2 smartwatch, I was under the impression that the device is impressively thinner, lighter and smaller than most of the other flagship smart watches in the market. Guess what, the Gear S2 Classic is further sleeker and lighter. The rubber straps are replaced by a brown leather made the strap and a steel buckle.
Also, the Gear S2 Classic holds a crown-like rotating bezel. This classic bezel design along with the leather straps gives the device a premium elegant look. Honestly, it was way easier to use the Classic’s bezel than the one on the sports version. The crown-like bezel gave a better grip and click while rotating.
Button placements and heart sensor remain the same as the Gear S2. The display is also the same 1.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with 320 x 320 resolution, but with a bigger screen to body ratio.
Chipset, Performance, and Features
While the Gear S2 Classic appears to be different and elegant, most of the features remain the same as the Sports version. You get the same performance of the Gear S2, thanks to the Tizen OS and the dual-core Exynos 3250 processors with 512MB RAM and 4GB storage.
Features include step tracking, heart rate monitor, incoming call and message alert, gesture controls, music controls, exercise targets, custom watch faces, and several Tizen-friendly apps. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The Gear S2 features the same 250 mAh battery as the sporty version. In my time of use, the Gear S2 Classic would last almost a day and a half, along with using certain fitness features, and with Bluetooth switched on. Standby time remains to be around 2-3 days until it died out. The Gear S2 Classic comes with the same wireless charging unit as the Gear S2 Sport.
The question remains whether you should buy the Gear S2 Sport or the Gear S2 Classic. While both the devices technically deliver the same performance and features, the only difference is just the looks which are obvious.
If you are those who would want to wear an elegant looking timepiece that suits your classic attitude, then the Gear S2 Classic is the way to go.
