The successor of the iPhone 7 is here and it is the new iPhone 8. It was rumored that the new device will be named 7S and also since there are no major changes in the new iPhone. Significant improvements are updated display and enhanced hardware specs including wireless charging and AR.
Design and Display
The display in the new iPhone 8 consists of a IPS 4.7-inch diagonal Retina display with widescreen LCD Multi Touch. The screen resolution scales to 1334x750 pixels and it has a pixel density of 326 ppi. The home button is assumed to be located on the back or integrated into the display. The new series models will have the familiar Touch ID-fingerprint scanner-home button system. A big change to the design is that Apple has replaced the traditional aluminum iPhone design with a new glass and steel body. The phone still retains the large bezels and the round home button. The display supports 3D Touch and has 625 cd/m² max brightness. The screen goes through an oleophobic coating to resist fingerprint smudges. The display supports multiple languages and includes display zoom. Overall the display has good reachability. You can also find a colour matched, aerospace grade aluminum band. You can grab the iPhone in 3 exciting colors- Gold, Silver, and Space Grey.
The iPhone 8 will be running on an A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture. It has 4 efficiency scores that are up to 70 per cent efficient than the A10 Fusion. And 2 performance scores that are up to 25 per cent faster. It will come power-packed with iOS 11 and Neural Engine Embedded M11 motion coprocessor. This chip seems to be an overkill for a phone of this size but it is used to power the AR experience. iPhone 8 will feature the next generation of Touch ID with face and/or iris scanning. It is enabled with wireless charging. Apple is said to include its lightning connector in the iPhone 8 excluding the port USB-C. It will support the Apple Pencil. Apple dumps its 32GB model and offers a 64GB and 256GB model, it boosts the amount of RAM to 2GB in iPhone 8.
The new device also supports Wireless charging that works with Qi chargers. This will be Apple’s initiative keeping the future in mind. The iPhone comes with a Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery and supports Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter. It is also Fast-charge capable. The iPhone 8 offers- Up to 14 hours of talk time, Up to 14 hours Internet use, Up to 12 hours Video playback, Up to 13 hours Audio playback. Lasts about the same as iPhone 7 Talk time (wireless): Up to 12 hours Internet use: Up to 13hours of Video playback (wireless): Up to 40 hours Audio playback (wireless): Up to 50% charge in 30 minutes. The glass back allows wireless charging with ease.
The device ships with Nano-SIM modes. They are not compactable with the existing micro-SIM cards. The Headphones includes Ear Pods with Lightning Connector. The Applications are made smartly so that they consume only less than 200MB of space. There are also Accessibility features that assist individuals with disabilities to use the iPhone easily. Users are offered with built-in support for vision, hearing, physical and motor skills, and learning and literacy for exploring their device. Features include Voiceover, Zoom, Magnifier, Siri and Dictation, Type to Siri, Switch Control, Closed Captions, Assistive Touch, and Speak Screen. Now coming to sensors, there is a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Barometer, Three-axis gyro, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, and Ambient light sensor. The iPhone 8 is Splash, Water, and Dust Resistant, Rated at IP67 under IEC standard 60529Splash.
The iPhone 8 comes with a 12-megapixel camera with an aperture of ƒ/1.8 aperture and Digital zoom up to 5x. The camera has features like Optical image stabilization, Six element lens, Quad-LED True Tone flash with Slow Sync, Panorama (up to 63 megapixels), Sapphire crystal lens cover, Backside illumination sensor, Hybrid IR filter, Autofocus with Focus Pixels Tap to focus with Focus Pixels, Live Photos with stabilization, Wide color capture for photos and Live Photos, Improved local tone mapping, Body and face detection, Exposure control, Noise reduction, Auto HDR for photos, Auto image stabilization, Burst mode, Timer mode, Photo geotagging, Image formats captured: HEIF and JPEG.
