2018 has certainly been the year of bezel-less smartphones and while we have seen Huawei already introduce all-screen designs on their mid-range portfolio, the company has introduced their next iteration called the Huawei nova 3i smartphone. Let’s take a look at what the smartphone is all about.
If you love how the bezel-less smartphones look but can’t spend a lot on high-end models, then consider the all-new Huawei nova 3i Android smartphone. The smartphone may be armed with mid-range specs but it does look impressive for a device in that price category. The smartphone holds a large 6.3-inch IPS display and thanks to the super-thin bezels, Huawei was able to cramp in more screen estate without making the smartphone look bigger. That being said, the nova 3i holds a thickness of 7.6mm and weighs about 169g, which isn’t bad at all for a large-sized smartphone. The display packs a screen-to-body ratio of 82.2%. The screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2340 and features an aspect ratio of 19:5:9 and with 409ppi as the pixel brightness. The viewing angles are very good as one would expect with an IPS display and the resolution goes well with the large screen estate.
The volume rockers and the power button are located on the right side of the smartphone. And as usual, the speaker grill is placed on the bottom of the device, along with the micro USB port and a headphone jack. Yes, guys, you are getting a notched smartphone with a headphone and the good old micro USB 2.0 port so users will not need to throw their wired headphones and chargers.
The smartphone features a Dual-SIM slot where the SIM 2 slot can be used for a MicroSD card. The internal storage is 128GB and that’s quite a lot for a smartphone for this price. And adding a high-capacity microSD card should bring more storage for your movies and music collection. The smartphone on the rear side consists of the fingerprint scanner and the vertically mounted dual-lens camera.
The camera consists of dual shooters, one of which is a 16MP sensor and the other is a 2MP depth sensor with phase detection autofocus so users will be able to snap images instantly with fast autofocus speed. The camera on the front also features a 2MP depth sensor and a 24MP sensor. So yes, you get the goodness of dual-lens on both sides. While it’s a dual-lens camera, the video capability is not up to what one would expect. Although you can record 1080p videos, the maximum bit rate is only 30fps for both the front and rear camera setups.
The Huawei nova 3i features the Kirin 710 processor, an octa-core processor with 4 Cortex A73 cores and 4 Cortex A53 cores, clocked at 2.2GHz and 1.7GHz, respectively. The RAM is 4GB and the device runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS with EMUI 8.2 skin. The smartphone responsiveness is snappy enough for most occasions except some lags. However, gaming performance is just decent, to say the least with the Mali-G51 MP4. We noticed some slight lags while playing PUBG. The battery of the device is a non-removable 3340 mAh in capacity and the battery was able to keep the smartphone on for days with very less usage. The smartphone is capable of lasting for a day on a daily basis while using for several calls, internet browsing, some gaming, snapping images and so on.
So far, all the specifications and capability told about the Huawei nova 3i is quite impressive and its been a while I've seen a worthy smartphone that I can recommend for those looking for an AED 1299 smartphone. Huawei has always been known to transit flagship like specifications onto their mid-range devices and this is no surprise either. You get a neat and clean design with a beautiful bezel-less display in a smartphone, dual-lens camera on the primary camera setup and the selfie camera configuration, a massive storage capacity with more room for expansion, high-speed performance and lot more.
