Apple Launches the 2018 MacBook Pro 15” non-Touch Bar Laptop With Plenty Of Powerful Upgrades
On July 12 Apple rolled out their latest updates on the MacBook Pro, including a 15-inch non-touch bar variation of the device. MacBook Pro is already one of the most popular notebooks among developers and creative artists across the world and the 2018 updates boost the existing features for 70 percent faster performance. This new device is not just faster, but also comes packed with new pro features marking it out as one of the most advanced Mac notebooks ever.
Design and display
The MacBook Pro has been long applauded for their attractive design which features a slim and light chassis packed with powerful components. The 2018 version of the Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch non-Touch Bar is the same design as last year. The 15.4 inch LED-backlit Retina display has a resolution of 2,880x 1,800 pixels. The screen has 500 nits of brightness and combined with the wide colour P3 gamut with True Tone technology the colours seen onscreen are richer with more intensity. Deeper blacks, snowy whites and vibrant colours make watching movies or playing games on the Apple MacBook Pro 2018 15-inch non-Touch Bar notebook an out-of-the-world experience.
The True Tone technology was first debuted on the iPad Pro and has since then featured on iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. This is a welcome technology aimed more towards consumers than professionals. True Tone technology has the ability to sense the ambient light present in the working environment and adjusts the display accordingly so that the image visible is always bright and vibrant. This mode is optional and can be switched off if not needed. This feature is very helpful for those who work with word processing, spreadsheets or coding applications. However, for those whose jobs involve colour accuracies, such as in photo or video editing, then this feature is best turned off.
Apple boasts that the new line of MacBooks come with improved keyboards. The 2018 models retain the chiclet-style keyboards previously seen in MacBooks but has an added silicone membrane that helps to keep keys quite as well as stop dust from interfering with optimum keyboard functions. So, those who love to type fast and intensely will have a better working experience with the new keyboards.
The laptop runs on macOS High Sierra
While the design of the laptop is the same as its previous iteration, the specs have improved drastically. The Apple MacBook Pro 2018 15-inch non-Touch Bar comes with two choices of hardware; a choice of 6-core Intel Core i7 with 2,2GHz base clock and Turbo Boost speed of up to 4.1 GHz or Core i9 processor of 2.9GHz with Turbo Boost of up to 4.8 GHz. It has a 32Gb RAM with up to 4TB SSD storage. The MacBook has 4 Thunderbolt 3 USB-C type ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.
The new MacBook Pro 2018 15-inch non-Touch Bar model has a substantial upgrade in the form of the Apple T2 Chip. The T2 chip is a security chip specifically designed to handle encryption. The chip takes care of secure boot, encrypted storage abilities, and FaceTime camera. Additionally, it consolidates the system management controller, SSD controller and audio controller too. The T2 chip also enables Hey Siri commands on the 2018 MacBook Pros.
The Apple MacBook Pro 2018 15-inch non-Touch Bar notebook has up to 10 hours of battery life on standby. The battery lasts for about 8 hours when playing 1080p videos at 50% brightness and volume, with backlighting and radio. For more intensive work such as video rendering, the battery life gets reduced further.
