Watching sports matches on the go has never got better. With mobile 4G speeds that are fast enough to stream live matches on the go, people tend to watch the championships on their smartphones while they are away from home. If you are looking for big smartphones that offer the best in display technology, then take a look at these amazing devices below.
One of the most anticipated smartphones of last year, Apple joins the bezel-less smartphone bandwagon with the launch of the Apple iPhone X, or simply called the iPhone 10. It’s also the first iPhone to come with an OLED display that’s manufactured by Samsung. The screen size is a 5.8-inch panel with a resolution of 1125 x 2436. And unlike its Samsung counterparts, the device takes advantage of the whole screen except for the presence of a notch on the top that houses the front camera for facial recognition and other vital sensors. The display brings in support of HDR content for Dolby Vision and HDR10 standards, and the True-Tone technology helps to bring accurate colors. The device is powered by Apple’s fastest A11 Bionic processor. The smartphone comes in both 64GB and 256GB of internal storage options. For those who worry about the battery life, the iPhone X has a battery capacity that’s rated to be 2716 mAh. Unlike the regular iPhones, the iPhone X doesn’t feature a home button on the front and no Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Users will need to unlock the device with the Face ID feature.
If the Apple iPhone X is a bit much for you in terms of price, then try out the cheaper Apple iPhone 8 Plus that also sports a large 5.5-inch screen. The IPS display features a resolution of 1080 x 1920. Despite the presence of large screen bezels, Apple iPhone IPS displays are known for its accurate color accuracy and good viewing angles so users who want to watch content on the go would appreciate the quality. The screen is also ion-strengthened and features oleophobic coating. The smartphone packs the Apple A11 Bionic processor and the device comes in both 64GB or 256GB of internal storage. And for those who are bothered about the lack of a fingerprint scanner on the iPhone X, the iPhone 8 Plus comes with the traditional Touch ID home button on the front side. The battery capacity of the device is 2691 mAh and features support for fast charging, where users can achieve 50% in just 30 minutes of charge. The iPhone 8 Plus smartphone is also IP67 certified for dust and water resistance.
Samsung’s latest and greatest flagship smartphone ever made, the Galaxy S9+ features all of the goodness of the Infinity Display, offering users with more screen estate and less bezel area, thanks to the 18:5:9 aspect ratio. And with many applications like YouTube already supports such a wide aspect ratio. The size of the display is 6.2-inch and the panel is a Super AMOLED display with 1440 x 2960 as the screen resolution. Thanks to the thinner bezels, the smartphone itself doesn’t appear to be big while having a larger display. The display is protected with Gorilla Glass 5 to help resist from accidental scratches. The display also provides support for HDR10 based content. The Always-On display feature brings in different and important notifications on the display without the need to wake the device. The processor used is currently Samsung’s fastest Exynos 9810 Octa chip and aided with 6GB RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo OS. You get to store lots of data, movies and apps with the 64GB internal storage and can be expanded with a MicroSD card. The battery of the smartphone holds a capacity of 3500 mAh and also supports wireless charging and fast charging.
While the Galaxy S9+ may be almost the same size, the Galaxy Note 8 is a league of its own, offering support for the famous S-Pen that lets you input anything on the screen for more productivity. While you watch matches any other content, you will be able to take advantage of the S-Pen’s impressive features and create interesting content for both IM and social media applications, such as creating GIFs, recording clips and more. The Super AMOLED display is 6.3-inch in size and features the same screen resolution and aspect ratio as the Galaxy S9+. You also get support to play HDR10 based video content. The screen offers solid colors and excellent viewing angles. The display also features the 3D Touch on the bottom that functions as the home button. The device runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and packs the Exynos 8895 Octa processor and 6GB, that’s fast enough for most of your multitasking needs. The battery of the Note8 comes with a capacity of 3300 mAh and features both fast charge and Qi wireless charging support.
Since the launch of the Apple iPhone X, many companies took a page of the Cupertino company’s design ideas and released similar looking smartphones (or simply called as Apple iPhone X clones with Android). Huawei was one the companies that released several devices with bezel-less displays and a notch on the front. This is particularly good for those who love the looks of the iPhone X but prefers to use Android. While the Huawei P20 Pro looks similar to the iPhone X, most of its specifications are almost similar to Apple’s offering. For instance, the 6.2-inch AMOLED display of the P20 Pro features a resolution of 1080 x 2240 and with an aspect ratio of 18:7:9. Unlike the iPhone X, viewing videos on the Huawei P20 Pro avoids the presence of the notch by not extending the content over the notch area. This may reduce the use of the screen estate but gets rid of the notch problem that’s quite an annoyance for many users. The processor of the P20 Pro is the company’s latest Kirin 970 octa-core processor and the device runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS. The device will only come with 128GB of internal storage with 6GB RAM. There is also a home button on the front side and the fingerprint scanner is mounted separately on the rear panel. The P20 Pro also houses a very large 4000 mAh battery and brings in fast charge support that’s rated to achieve 58% of charge in just 30 minutes.
If the Huawei P20 Pro is quite expensive for your budget, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro is also a good alternative. And if you are not happy about the notches, the display of the Mate 10 Pro doesn’t have one and comes with very thin bezels too. The size of the AMOLED display is 6-inch with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 and also comes with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. Users will also be able to play HDR movies, thanks to the support for HDR10 standard. The smartphone is also powered by the Kirin 970 chip and features storage options of 64GB with 4GB RAM and 128GB with 6GB RAM. The Mate 10 Pro runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and the UI is based on their latest EMUI 8.0 skin. And as usual, there is a rear-facing fingerprint scanner and a front-mounted home button for the device. This is also another smartphone that packs a large 4000 mAh battery with fast charge support.
With the craze of 4K content going on, there are very few smartphones out there that offers a 4K display. And one such great example is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium smartphone. The device holds a 5.46-inch display and consist of an IPS panel. The screen is protected with Gorilla Glass 5 to resist from accidental scratches. The display on this smartphone also supports HDR10 based content for the best colors and contrast. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor and is fused with Android 8.0 and 4GB RAM. There is also 64GB of internal storage with MicroSD card expansion. The device also comes with stereo speakers for surround sound. Unlike other smartphones, the Xperia XZ Premium’s fingerprint scanner is placed on the right side of the device. However, the battery of the device holds a capacity of 3230 mAh with the Quick Charge 3.0 feature that offers fast charge. While the Xperia XZ Premium was announced a year ago, it’s still one of the only devices that offer 4K resolution with modern specifications.
LG’s recently announced flagship smartphones have been quite impressive for its design and performance, and the latest is the LG V30+ smartphone, featuring a bezel-less 6-inch P-OLED display. The screen has an aspect ratio of 18:9 and comes with a resolution of 1440 x 2880. To protect the screen from scratches, the screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The device is also IP68 certified for dust and water resistance. For next-gen HDR content, the smartphone supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 standards. The screen also features the Always-On option and the UI is based on LG’s UX 6.0+ skin. Speaking of which, the smartphone runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS and is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chip with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The fingerprint scanner of the device is placed on the rear side. There is also a 3300 mAh battery onboard the device with support for Quick Charge 3.0 (Qualcomm’s version of fast charge technology). Users can achieve 50% of charge in just 36 minutes via its USB Type-C port. If you are not happy of the fact that most bezel-less smartphones don’t have a 3.5mm jack, that isn’t the case with the LG V30+.
Before Apple introduced their iPhone X, Xiaomi was one of the few that came out with bezel-less next-gen smartphone designs, and their latest smartphone called the Mi Mix 2 features a large 5.99-inch IPS screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display on the Mi MIX 2 features a resolution of 1080 x 2160 and with a brightness of 403ppi. The screen is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. As you can see, Xiaomi has shifted the sensors and the front-facing camera from the top to the bottom area. While there isn't a home button on the front, the fingerprint scanner is placed on the rear side. The smartphone is equipped with the Snapdragon 835 chip and is fused with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device operates on Android 7.1 OS with MIUI 9. The Mi MIX 2 holds a large 3400 mAh battery and features Quick Charge 3.0 fast charge support via the USB Type-C port. The smartphone also features a ceramic rear panel, which gives it a premium look. While the device doesn't feature a 3.5mm audio jack, users will be able to use the USB Type-C adaptor to connect their wired headphones.
