At the Four Seasons Resort in Dubai, UAE, Samsung has officially launched their latest iteration of Android flagship phablet called the Samsung Galaxy Note7-packed with new features such as waterproofing, an iris-scanner for extra security, and exciting new editing tools to explore with the S-Pen.
On the Samsung launch stage is Mr. Tarek Sabbagh, the Head of IT and Mobile (IM) Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics. Tarek did explain the features of the Galaxy Note7 briefly throughout the launch.
“In 2011 we launched and pioneered an all-new category of large screen smartphones together with the unique S-Pen. Over the years, each edition of the Note series has reconfirmed Samsung’s vision and commitment for development by improving consumer experience in a simple, productive and distinctive way. With the Galaxy Note7 we have reinvented the large-screen smartphone segment with a unique combination of productivity tools, entertainment services and security features. In addition, the Galaxy Note7 powers a robust ecosystem that strikes a balance between work and play, enabling people to achieve more than what they thought possible on a smartphone not just faster but wherever and whenever,” said Tarek Sabbagh.
One of the main features spoken about the Samsung Galaxy Note7 is the addition of IP68 certified waterproof and dustproof resistance for both the device and the S-Pen- a first for the Galaxy Note series. Users will now be able to note down their thoughts while being on a beach or a pool. The smartphone will be able to take a dive 1.5m deep for underwater photography.
The design of the Samsung Galaxy Note7 is beautifully crafted with a seamless flow from front to the rear side, thanks to the dual-edge display which is symmetrical for the rear side too. Tarek says that users will mostly not feel the large size of the Note7, and will be able to comfortably use the device with one hand.
The new S-Pen also holds new features such as grabbing a scene from a video to create a GIF. Tarek mentions about the implementation of the iris scanner which adds to the numerous security options available in the device. It’s said that Samsung has been working on the iris scanner for years to perfect the technology. Samsung officials confirm that the recognition speed of the iris scanner is very fast even in low light conditions (Yes, it will detect for users who also wear glasses or contact lens).
Additionally, there is a “Secure Folder” which allows users to protect their sensitive data. What’s more interesting is that the folder can be unlocked using the iris scanner. If that wasn’t enough to excite users, Samsung also adds that the portable battery case for the Samsung Galaxy Note7 is waterproof.
For users who still prefer to use the old MicroUSB port, Samsung will be supplying the Note7 with a USB Type-C to USB converter.
Other features of the Samsung Galaxy Note7 include:
Joining the stage is David Ashford, the CIO of Entertainer. David spoke of how their service helped in providing content and offers for users in the Middle East. He also added that users who purchase the Note7 will benefit from their Galaxy Entertainer App, in turn saving a lot of expense for premium content.
Meanwhile, Tarek adds that they have teamed up with Google for special “Galaxy Game Packs” which includes popular games. Samsung also confirmed that users who purchase the Galaxy Note7 will be able to avail discounts for travel packs across the globe, thanks to their partnership with Holiday Factory. For example, a trip to Maldives for two persons will only cost AED 2498, including flights and premium hotel stay. A similar for Prague goes for AED 2798.
Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy Note7 smartphone will be available starting from the 19th of August. Stay tuned for our review of the Samsung Galaxy Note7. Meanwhile, take a look at the gallery above for our complete event coverage and hands-on of the Samsung Galaxy Note7.
