During the GITEX Technology Week at the World Trade Centre, Samsung Gulf achieved a Guinness World Record for the most number of participants riding their Gear VR-based VR roller coaster experience in one hour, 421 users to be more precise. This puts Dubai on the map as a global hub for Virtual Reality innovation.

GITEX participants were strapped on special seats that gave a roller coaster experience, while being strapped with the Gear VR headsets, powered by Oculus technology. The VR content is presented with a 4DX theatre experience. The smartphones used for these devices may likely be the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Virtual reality has rapidly advanced to enter the mainstream in transforming experiences in entertainment, education, and healthcare. Attempting this virtual reality world record underlines Dubai’s commitment to innovation, and GITEX Technology Week as the one of the world’s leading events for immersive technologies,” said C. Purushothaman, Head of Marketing (Smartphones & Tablets), IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

At GITEX Technology Week, showcasing the latest virtual reality innovations and breaking world records shows how the show is a platform for serious business, and serious fun,” said Trixie LohMirmand, the Senior Vice-President for Exhibitions and Events Management at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
