The UAE based Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has released the mobile market share statistics for Q2 2016 (From 1st April to 30th June) on the nation’s most popular brands and handsets sold.

It appears that most of the smartphones listed are mainly budget devices from Samsung and Nokia. While Apple did unveil the Apple iPhone SE to replace the iPhone 5s, it seems like people still prefer the old smartphone itself, perhaps due to the price difference. That said, TRA suggests that Samsung is the most popular brand in the region, which accounts for 33.3% of all the registered handsets, followed by Nokia (27%), Apple (13.6%), and Blackberry (1.8%).
TRA also revealed the statistics of the most visited application website stores, and the most popular social networking sites. Samsung wins again with its own App store, followed by Apple iTunes, and then Android Applications. It’s a feat that Samsung beats Google and Apple with their own App Store. As for the social networking sites, Facebook takes the cake for the most visited, which accounts for 90.39% traffic, followed by Twitter at 5.18%, and then comes Linkedin, MySpace, and Maktoob.
