During the Microsoft Event, last night, the Redmond company announced that they will be partnering with leading PC maker brands to develop high-quality and VR headsets for the Windows 10 platform. These brands include HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, and Acer. Microsoft aims to lock the price range of these headsets at $299 (Approx. AED 1098).
One of the main selling points of these new headsets is that unlike the models from Sony, Oculus Rift, and HTC, these models will feature advanced tracking sensors that omit the need of external cameras and sensors. Another factor is that these headsets will feature the “mixed reality”, which means you can create virtual objects from the real world, and use them within the VR content. It’s kind of a fusion of AR and VR in one device.
That said, these headsets are still wired to the main computer system, so for those who are waiting for advanced and wireless PC VR headsets will need to wait. It will be interesting to see Microsoft expand this portfolio of mixed reality headsets for the Xbox One console. There is no information on when these new headsets will arrive, but it’s possible that these companies could showcase them at CES 2017 next year.
