The wait is finally over as Apple has unveiled their latest generations of MacBook Pro laptops, featuring several new technologies that's poised to change the way you interact with a laptop, along with faster hardware processors and graphics that brings in a significant speed boost over previous generations.
The new Apple MacBook Pro laptops come in both 13” and 15” inch models. The 13-inch model now holds a thickness of 14.9mm. The 15-inch model is now 15.5mm thick. Apple states that the new MacBook Pros are considerably thinner and smaller than the Apple MacBook Air models. This is indeed an impressive feat as the MacBook Pro devices offer faster performances on a thinner body profile.
The long-rumored OLED strip on the MacBook Pro is officially called the “TouchBar”, a multi-touch strip of glass which runs in place of the function key row offers several system options based on the application you use on the main screen. For example, the TouchBar offers control shortcuts while watching a movie, or browse through a strip of images and videos while using the gallery on the main display. Customization of the TouchBar is simple which allows users to drag icons from the main screen onto the multi-touch strip.
During the event, Apple called the TouchBar as a separate Retina display. The TouchBar also allows professionals to achieve greater controls with popular apps such as Final Cut Pro, and Photoshop. Be it even a music player, or editing a video or movie, you can use the TouchBar to enhance the working experience.
Apple has added the TouchID sensor onto the right end of the TouchBar strip which allows users to make Apple Pay purchases. Logging in the MacBook Pro devices has never been this easy, thanks to the integrated TouchID scanner.
Apple says that the 15-inch MacBook Pro comes with a quad-core Intel i7 processor, clocked at 2.6 GHz speeds, with 16GB RAM, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, and SSD options of 256GB and 512GB. Apple says that the performance on the 15-inch model has increased by 130% for 3D graphics, 60% more on games, and 57% faster video editing, all thanks to the new AMD Radeon Pro 450 Polaris GPU.
However, the 13-inch model features a 2.9 GHz dual-core i5 processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. For those who do not prefer the OLED strip, Apple will offer the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the standard keyboard layout and function keys with similar specifications. This model will hold only two Thunderbolt 3 ports. We must also add that Apple has decided to keep the headphone jack on the MacBook Pro. Another new addition is the USB Type-C port that can be used for charging.
Apple says that the new MacBook Pro devices feature a new display that’s 67% brighter display, 67% higher contrast, and 25% more color gamut.
It appears, though that Apple has not included any standard USB ports on the new MacBook Pro, which could be a real problem for iPhone and power users. The HDMI and USB are all replaced by four Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports. Users will again need to use dongles, even to connect the latest Apple iPhone 7/ iPhone 7 Plus.
