It looks like companies have finally started to embrace the modular ways of smartphone evolution, and the latest is Alcatel who just launched the affordable A5 modular smartphone at MWC 2017. While the modular design of the A5 LED is similar to the likes of the Moto Z and Moto Mods, this little device packs a back panel with colorful LEDs.

The innovative back panel, which is called the Lightup+ LED cover, lights up when calls, messages, and notifications show up that’s impossible to miss out. If you get a message from Facebook, the panel shows the “F”, and Snapchat for “S” and so on. The Color Capture 2.0 feature lets you absorb up to 5 colors from any image to flash them in the back cover. You can also create your own light show for your favorite music playback.

The smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch HD display. The performance of the Alcatel A5 is based on the MediaTek MT6753 processor with 3GB RAM, which seems sufficient, and the 32GB internal storage is supported with MicroSD expansion.

The smartphone’s fingerprint scanner is capable of storing up to 5 fingerprints that can be assigned to 5 different applications. The camera on the rear side comes with a 13MP sensor with F2.0 aperture and dual-tone flash, and the front facing 5MP camera is supported with flash too.

The battery that keeps the lights on, has a capacity of 2800 mAh. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you get the fast-charge support and USB Type-C port. The modular capabilities of the Alcatel A5 LED are quite similar to the Moto Z.  Alcatel only demonstrated images of mods that were based on speakers and a 3000 mAh battery pack at MWC 2017.

The Alcatel A5 LED smartphone release date and pricing in the UAE is not known for now. We will update you as soon as the word is out.
