While Apple is on the verge of releasing a new iPhone with an OLED panel, new reports claim that the Cupertino company has signed a 2-year contract with Samsung Display for the production of OLED displays. The new OLED iPhone is said to come with an all-screen display design and embedded fingerprint scanner. The new contract claims that over 90 million OLED panels are expected to be shipped to Apple. Reports suggest that Apple is also getting ready to unveil the Apple Watch Series 3 later this year. DigiTimes claims that the new devices have entered the supply chain and is expected to hit the market by the second half of 2017. Analysts also speculate that the new Series 3 could come with LTE capabilities, something that Android Wear smartwatch makers are already offering on their latest models. Samsung Gulf has officially confirmed that Samsung Pay service has arrived in the UAE as an early access phase. The company will be working with a series of banks in the UAE, such as Mashreq Bank, ENBD, NBAD, ADCB, RAK, and SC. Customers will now be able to register for the early access at www.samsung.com/ae/samsungpay. Samsung Pay will allow users to pay by simply swiping or tapping the smartphone with Samsung eligible devices. Click here to read more.
More news as Samsung Gulf officially launched their latest Galaxy Tab S3 Android tablet at an event in Dubai. Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S3 now comes with quad speakers and S-Pen support. The tablet features a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display that also supports HDR content for true colors. The device is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB RAM on-board. There is also a 13MP camera on the rear and a 5MP camera on the front side. Click here to read more.
During a briefing with TechCrunch, Apple pointed out that the number of active users of the Windows 10 platform alone is four times than that of Mac users. That said, the company does make a good amount of money from their Mac shipments. Apple does realize that they have not updated their Mac desktop line-up for quite some time now, and so they are planning to introduce new models in sometime. Click here to read more.
New reports indicate that Apple will soon be creating their own GPU processors to use on their upcoming iPhones. Up until now, Apple has been depending on Imagination Technologies for graphics processors on their existing smartphones. Apple also holds over 8% of Imagination Technologies. The Cupertino tried to hold talks with the graphics solution company for a possible acquisition last year but was denied. Apple has officially confirmed that they will be opening their third store soon in the UAE that’s located at The Dubai Mall. This new Apple Store, which will be the second in Dubai, will be a 2-level showroom. The new store will also be a center point for a “place for learning and inspiration that combines the East and West”. The store will showcase the creativity of the UAE, which includes independent art galleries, startups, and local app developers, cafes, boutiques and more. Click here to read more.
During a conference call, John Chen, the CEO of Blackberry has hinted that some of their licensed partners are very keen to release a new Android tablet under the Blackberry branding, as a result, the company is interested in making a tablet. John did not specify which licensed partner will release the new Android tablet. There is no proper timeframe yet on when exactly will this new tablet will hit the market.
