LG Gulf has officially launched the all-new flagship LG G6 smartphone at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai. The smartphone comes with several new features such as a bold new display format with an amazing screen to body ratio, wide-angle cameras on both the front and rear sides, and is the first LG flagship to offer water and dust resistance. LG says that the design of the smartphone is in response to consumer feedback and user opinions, with a focus on the features that consumers really want, like a big screen that fits in one hand.
“The first response from global consumers and our regional partners to the LG G6 has been phenomenal. We are very excited about the LG G6 availability in the UAE, and we are confident local consumers will enjoy a phone that truly puts the user first with its design, durability and innovative features that truly create an immersive mobile experience,” said Mr. Yong Geun Choi, President of LG Electronics Gulf.
While the LG G6 holds a 5.7-inch FullVision display with QHD+ resolution (2,880 x 1,440), it’s also the first smartphone display with an 18:9 screen aspect ratio. As compared to conventional 16:9 aspect ratio displays, the 18:9 format offers more viewing space for an immersive experience when streaming videos and playing games. This also allows the smartphone size to remain smaller than other 5.7-inch smartphones in the market, basically letting users to easily hold a large-sized display smartphone with one hand.
The device is not only the first smartphone in the market to feature Dolby Vision technology, but also supports HDR 10, both are standards for High Dynamic Range (HDR). For viewing selfies, wide angle pictures and even the ones in the new Square Camera Mode, recent LG G6 photos appear on the same screen without the need for the user to switch to a gallery. The Square Camera function which divides the 18:9 ratio display into two identical squares, and also can take perfectly square photos in 1:1 ratio, that’s ideal for Instagram, Snapchat and other social media apps.
The LG G6 also features a dual-camera setup on the rear, one of which is a 13MP wide angle lens (F2.4 / 125°), and other is the standard 13MP lens with optical image stabilization (F1.8 / 71°). The front 5MP camera also offers both standard and wide-angle selfie modes (F2.2 / 100°). The LG G6 is the very first flagship in their portfolio to come with IP68 water and dust resistance that makes it safe to be immersed in up to 1.5 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes. The LG G6 not only meets international testing standards but also endures further tests for high temperatures and nail penetration and uses a proprietary technology that dissipates heat via an internal heat pipe, the first in an LG smartphone.
The LG G6 is powered by one of the latest Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB RAM. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS and the internal storage is a 32GB UFS 2.0 ROM with support for MicroSD expansion. Users can use one of the Nano SIM slots for the MicroSD card.
The device weighs about 163g and has a thickness of just 7.9mm. The LG G6 packs a 3300 mAh battery with fast charge support via the USB Type-C 2.0 port.
