Sony has officially unveiled their latest series of mirrorless full-frame camera called the a9 that packs some impressive specifications, specifically tuned for fast action and sports photography. The a9 features the world’s first stacked full frame BSI image sensor with 24MP and BIONZ X image processor.
Thanks to the new stacked back-illuminated image sensor that’s capable of storing a large amount of data for over 20 times faster readout speed, Sony featured the camera with an impressive 20fps continuous burst speed shootout. The camera will not create blackouts while performing continuous shots due to the non-mechanical electronic shutter.
To further support the speed, Sony has also packed the camera with phase detection autofocus with a massive 693 focus points, covering over 93% of the full-frame image sensor. The 4D FOCUS feature uses both contrast and phase detection for quick and precise focusing capability.
The camera also comes with 5-axis image stabilization ensures that your images and video captures are shake-free up to 5-stops. The OLED Tru-Finder now comes with a higher resolution of Quad-VGA with up to 120fps framerate. There are headphone and audio jacks, mini HDMI port, Micro USB, and even a LAN port to transfer images to an FTP server.
The 3-inch tiltable screen allows users to control focus with touch control. There is a control joystick on the rear along with drive and focus mode dials. The video capabilities of the camera go up to 4K with 30fps.
The Sony a9 will sell at a retail price of $4500 (AED 16,500). We will let you know once the camera hits the UAE market.
