Amazon Echo Show launches with video calling capability and media playback

Amazon has taken the smart assistant technology to the next level.

The leaked images of the new Amazon Echo was indeed legit. Amazon has officially announced the Amazon Echo Show, their latest smart assistant device that comes with a 7-inch display for allowing users to play different media content.

The Amazon Echo Show features a front-facing camera that allows users to make and take video calls. The Alexa personal AI assistant is ready always and the front-facing speaker is Dolby certified. According to TechCrunch, Amazon will be enabling free calls and messaging across all Echo devices via a new service called the "Alexa Calling".

The resolution of the 7-inch display has yet to be confirmed. However, the device is said to hold a weight of 1.1kg. Apart from video calls, users will be able to video news briefings, YouTube, read music lyrics with Amazon Music, weather forecasts, to-do shopping lists and even monitor security cameras.

The Amazon Echo Show will be sold for $230 (AED 843) and will be available for the US market from June 28. Unfortunately, there isn't any word on its availability in the UAE market for now. Microsoft also recently launched their own Cortana Speaker with Harman Kardon called the Invoke. We hope that Google also has something to answer back to Amazon this year, perhaps with a new Google Assistant powered Home with a display?

Meanwhile, take a look at the video below.
