Amazon launches the Echo Show that features a 7-inch display and a front camera that allows users to make video calls. The device comes with the Alexa voice-based personal assistant. Users will be able to play YouTube video, read music lyrics, reminders and more. The Amazon Echo Show will be priced at AED 843. However, there is no word on its availability in the UAE. After the announcement of JadoPado, there was no word on which regional business did acquire the popular e-commerce portal. A new report confirms that Emaar properties chairman Mohamad Alabbar had acquired JadoPado. However, there is still no confirmation on the amount spend to acquire JadoPado. The news of JadoPado comes days after the official announcement of Amazon acquiring Souq.com. Read more here.
Better late than never. Microsoft has finally entered the smart home speaker market with the Harman Kardon Invoke speakers. The new speakers are voice-activated with Cortana. While users will be able to ask Cortana with basically most of the inquiries, you can also make and accept Skype audio calls from other devices and landlines. The design of the Invoke appears to be similar to that of the original Amazon Echo. The Invoke features three woofers and three tweeters that are capable of producing an immersive 360-experience. Bose has officially launched their latest speakers called the SoundLink Revolve and Revolve+. The new speakers are IPX4 certified to be spills, splash and rain resistant. They are also rugged to resist accidental bumps or drops. Both the speakers are NFC-enabled for instant connections. The Revolve can last for 12 hours of use and the Revolve+ for 16 hours. Bose says that the Bose Connect App allows users to connect two Revoke speakers to work in Stereo mode. The Bose SoundLink Revolve is priced at AED 799 and Revolve+ for AED 1199 in Dubai, UAE. New reports indicate that Samsung is preparing their first dual-lens camera smartphone called the Galaxy C10. The source of the leak confirms that the device mode number is SM-C9150 and that the device will have a dedicated button for the Bixby personal assistant. The rumor also indicated that the rear dual-camera lens is configured in a vertical manner. Read more here.
An Emirati businessman who goes by the name Obaid Sagheer Al Qubaisi, has launched a new smartphone game called “Zayed the Leader” for the Apple App Store and Google PlayStore. The new game is said to be seen as an educational city-building simulator and to provide the historical details of the UAE. It also highlights the challenges faced by Shk. After a company called Oxygen Forensics had claimed the iCloud chat backups can be secured, WhatsApp had quietly added encryption to keep users backups secure. The report has been confirmed by Forbes after WhatsApp had confirmed that the iCloud backups are being encrypted. With this new update, law-enforcement agencies will find it hard to crack open user’s chat history. Read more here.
While analysts suggested that Apple iPhone 8 production may be delayed, new reports indicate that Apple has ordered its component manufacturers to start the production of the iPhone 8 in June. The report comes from the Economic Daily Times of Taipei and confirms that Kinsus Interconnect and Zhen Ding will be responsible for making components for the tenth anniversary Apple iPhone and TSMC will make the next-gen Apple A11 processors for the iPhone 8, iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
