HMD, the parent company of Nokia, today confirmed that it will release the Android O update for all its upcoming Nokia devices.
The Finnish company had announced three new Nokia devices at the Mobile World Congress earlier in the year, namely the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6.
“The smartphones will get the Android O update once the new release is available from Google for their OEM partners, the same way HMD Global is committed to the monthly Android security updates,” said an HMD official.
The company also plans to release three other smartphones by the end of the year, including its much-rumored flagship device, the Nokia 9. While HMD has been quite tight-lipped about the device, the latest bit of information about the device suggested that it will at least feature dual-cameras.
Google plans to release Android O sometime this fall, so naturally, it will take time for HMD to issue an update as each third-party Android maker will have to adapt the OS to their platform and pass it through numerous stability and security checks before it releases to the public.
Android O is set to bring a number of new features. Including better battery life thanks to improved background process management, better notification controls, picture-in-picture support, adaptive icons, wide color gamut for apps, improved sound quality using Sony’s LDAC technology over Bluetooth, and much more.
There is no word yet on the availability of the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones for the UAE market.
