After its unveiling at the MWC 2017 event, Alcatel has officially launched the Alcatel A5 LED in the UAE, the world’s first interactive LED-covered smartphone. The A5 LED follows Alcatel’s enjoy.now concept with innovations for the energetic young consumers in the UAE.
“With the A5 LED, Alcatel is delivering new fun features, like light-up notifications and unique LED cover patterns and themes you create yourself, as well as an enhanced multimedia experience and more ways to take and share selfies, ideal for people who value having fun and letting their personality shine,” said Ruediger Odenbach, the Vice President at Alcatel Middle East & Africa.
The Alcatel A5 features the Lightup+LED innovate back panel that allows users to personalize the smartphone’s LED lights. The LED lights can glow for incoming calls, alarms, social media alerts, music and video playback and more. The Color Catcher 2.0 helps to create unique LED cover patterns and themes. You can also setup for special LED patterns in letters when a particular application notification gets triggered. For example, the panel shows “F” for Facebook, “W” for WhatsApp when messages reach the smartphone. The LED effects can be controlled and modified for different usages and can be disabled when not required.
The smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch IPS screen with 720p resolution. The screen also comes with full lamination. The processor used in the device is an octa-core processor called the MT6753 from MediaTek, along with 3GB RAM on the device and 32GB internal storage. You can expand the memory with a MicroSD card. However, the A5 LED runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. There isn’t any word yet on whether the A5 will get the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
The Alcatel A5 LED features 5 MP front camera with the support of a selfie flash so that you can take selfies in low light situations. The camera app also comes with the Face Beauty software for processing flawless images and the Face Show, which lets you turn your selfies into personalized video clips. The 13 MP rear-sided main camera with dual-tone flash brings out great images. The smartphone also features a Private Mode, which is a different sign-in mode to protect your hidden photos and apps.
The battery that comes with the device has a capacity of 2800 mAh. There are more expansion mods for the A5 LED that includes a 3000 mAh battery pack. At the MWC 2017 launch, Alcatel had also demonstrated a speaker mode as well for the Alcatel A5 LED. The device also sports a fingerprint scanner on the front side of the device. The power button and volume rockers are placed on the right side of the device, along with a micro USB port. No, the smartphone doesn't feature USB Type-C port. There is also the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top side.
