While the launch of the BlackBerry KEYone by TCL did grab the attention of many users around the Middle Eastern region, the smartphone was only available in a silver color. Now, Axiom Telecom has introduced a new special edition gold-plated KEYone, that will be available from 20th August 2017.
Users who are interested will now be able to pre-order the gold-plated BlackBerry KEYone from the Axiom Online store page. However, you will need to pay a hefty price of AED 2999, that’s AED 1000 north of the usual AED 1999 price of the usual KEYone which you can get in stores. We should mention that according to the specifications mentioned in the page, the internals is pretty much the same as before. So, you are only paying the extra premium for just the color.
If you still aren’t aware of the BlackBerry KEYone specifications, the device features a 4.5-inch IPS display with 3:2 aspect ratio. The processor used is the mid-range and battery efficient Snapdragon 625 with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The main selling point of the device is its built-in physical keyboard, making it one of a kind smartphone that runs on Android Nougat OS. The camera of the KEYone is a 12MP shooter on the rear (the same that’s used in the Google Pixel), and the front-facing camera is an 8MP selfie sensor.
Considering the AED 2999 price tag, we think that the smartphone could have featured a few upgraded specifications. We say that because, BlackBerry along with Optiemus, recently launched the Limited Edition Black BlackBerrry KEYone smartphone in India. While the device features an all-black color, the smartphone has beefed up specifications that were lacking in the current model. For starters, the Limited Edition BlackBerry KEYone sports 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, when compared to the 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Yes folks, this is quite a bump that could upset a lot of existing KEYone users, although, the Snapdragon 625 processor remains the same. That said, there are already several video reviews by popular YouTubers, who claim that they did not see any performance improvements, even when with the presence of an extra RAM. But hey, you do get double the storage space.
Things can get more upsetting as the Limited Edition BlackBerry KEYone that’s launched in India, also comes with Dual-SIM 4G support. All this for just INR 39990 (Approx. AED 2200) and is only sold as an exclusive for the Indian market via Amazon India. We will try to find out if the Limited Edition BlackBerry KEYone will hit the UAE stores at a later point.
So, in the end, you either get to buy the standard BlackBerry KEYone with silver-frames for AED 1999, or the special edition gold-plated KEYone for a pricier AED 2999 with the same specifications, or you try to find a way to buy the Limited Edition, all-black, BlackBerry KEYone with upgraded specifications from India.
