Samsung has officially unpacked their latest generation of its phablet called the Galaxy Note8 at the Unpacked event held in New York City. The new smartphone comes with tons of new features and performance improvements that should please the loyal Note fans who have really missed using the previous and impressive Galaxy Note7 device.
In terms of design and specifications, the Samsung Note8 appears to be a bigger version of the Galaxy S8+ with an S-Pen. That’s right folks. You get the beautiful Infinity Display that features a nearly bezel-less design, in turn giving more screen estate for a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD+ panel with edge-to-edge screen. The aspect ratio tuned here is 18:5:9 for a cinematic viewing experience. Note8 now features a capability that lets users use two applications at the same time simultaneously. The new smartphone is 8.6mm thick and now weighs about 195g.
S-Pen is back with a slew of new features, such as the ability to create your own custom GIFs from video clips, along with handwritten messages on images. The tip of the new S-Pen is now 0.7mm as compared to the 1.6mm of the Galaxy Note5’s S-Pen. What’s more is that the new S-Pen is IP68 and the Note8 is water resistant (IP68).
For enhanced security, the Note8 also comes with the Iris sensor on the front, and the fingerprint scanner sits on the rear side next to the all-new dual-lens camera. It’s the first time ever Samsung has used a dual-lens camera on a flagship product and the first in the Note series. The new dual-lens setup is the perfect combination of a telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens. The telephoto lens packs a 12MP image sensor with an aperture of F2.4. The wide-angle lens features the Dual Pixel 12MP image sensor with 77-degree field of view and with a sharp aperture of F1.7. Optical image stabilization is supported on both the rear and front cameras. The front camera comes with an 8MP selfie snapper with F1.7 aperture. UHD video recording is only possible at 30fps.
Samsung Galaxy Note8 is powered by the latest of their processors, the Exynos 8895 Octa, along with a whopping 6GB RAM on-board (just as the rumors confirmed in the past). Internal storage capacity variants will come in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, and all of them will come with a MicroSD card expansion slot. The 3.5mm audio jack is still there and the smartphone will come bundled with earphones that’s finely tuned by AKG. Samsung Galaxy Note8 runs on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system and it's just a matter of time when Samsung rolls out the Android 8.0 Oreo update. There is also a dedicated Bixby key on the Note8.
Just as the Galaxy S8 series, users will be able to switch between Full HD+ and Quad HD+ resolutions for saving power. Speaking of which, the Note8 packs a large 3300 mAh battery. Fast charge and wireless charging support are also included. The Note8 is stated to last up to 47 hours with the Always-On mode turned on.
The new smartphone will soon be available in Midnight Black, Deepsea Blue, Orchid Gray and Maple Gold colors. We will let you know soon when the new Samsung Galaxy Note8 will be launched in the UAE and its pricing details.
UPDATE: We got confirmation that the 64GB Galaxy Note8 is avaliable for pre-orders and is priced at AED 3399.
