Samsung IFA 2017 launches

As a part of the IFA 2017 announcements, Samsung has unveiled their latest series of smart wearable devices, namely a new smartwatch, a smart fitness tracker and cord-free earbuds.

Unlike their flagship-series smartwatches, Samsung decided to focus on a smartwatch that’s meant for sports and swimming. The new Gear Sport is meant to be worn by both men and women and comes only with a single size. The Gear Sport is 42mm and weighs only 50g. The display is a circular Super AMOLED screen and the device is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor with 768MB RAM.

The internal storage on the Gear Sport is 4GB as usual and the device also features a heart-rate sensor, GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth capability. The smartwatch can be wirelessly charged and holds a 300 mAh battery. Since it's meant for swimmers, the Tizen powered Gear Sport features 5ATM resistance, which is about 50m of depth pressure. The MIL-STD-810G certification means that the device can withstand pool and salt water, sand, dust, UV, shock and more.

The next device is a new version of the existing Gear Fit2 that features the 5ATM resistance and MIL-STD-810G certification as the Gear Sport. The new wearable is called the Gear Fit2 Pro and it has a 1.5-inch curved Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The device also runs on a dual-core processor with 512MB RAM. Sensors and connectivity include the heart rate scanner, GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi. The battery in the Gear Fit2 Pro holds a capacity of 200 mAh.

Samsung latest wireless earbuds are the Gear IconX (2018), that offers improved battery life of about 5 hours of Bluetooth streaming or 4 hours of talk time. Each of the earbud pieces has its own 4GB internal storage and 82mAh battery. While these ear buds weigh 8g each, it has a capacitive control surface for gesture based controls such as single or double or triple tap or hold and also to swipe up or down. The new Gear IconX also supports Samsung Bixby. The IconX can be charged with a special case with quick charge support. These cases hold its own 340 mAh battery. Samsung claims that the charging the IconX with the charging case for 10 minutes can last about 1 hour of workout sessions.
