During the IFA 2017 event in Berlin, Sony has officially announced three new smartphones, namely the high-end Sony Xperia XZ1, the Xperia XZ1 Compact and the XA1 Plus phablet. The new smartphones come with the latest of Sony’s camera technologies and a range of new software features.
The Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ1 Compact is Sony’s latest iteration of flagship smartphones that replaces the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact from last year. The Xperia XZ1 sports a 5.2-inch Full HD HDR display as usual and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 scratch resistant sheet. While the device appears to have a similar design aspect, the hardware is bumped up to the Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. The storage of the smartphone is 64GB with the inclusion of MicroSD card slot. The weight of the Xperia XZ1 is 155g and holds a 2700 mAh battery.
The Xperia XZ1 Compact on the other hand, comes with a smaller 4.6-inch IPS display but with HD resolution. The Xperia XZ1 Compact is surely the fastest small-sized smartphone in the Android platform because it also packs a Snapdragon 835 CPU and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM as well. However, the internal storage is just 32GB, which can be expanded with a MicroSD card. The weight of the device is 143g and it also has a 2700 mAh battery. It's also slightly thick at 9.3mm. Both the Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ1 Compact runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and also shares the same 19MP Motion Eye camera with predictive capture and the 960fps slow-motion video.
However, the Xperia XZ1 has a 13MP camera on the front and the Xperia XZ1 Compact features a lower 8MP camera, but with a wide field of view. Both the smartphones have USB Type-C for fast charge support and feature IP65/68 for dust and water resistance and a fingerprint scanner that’s mounted on the home button. Sony has also added a new feature called the 3D Creator, which allows users to scan and render any subject or object to create 3D stickers or also send the content to a 3D printer.
The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus is a mid-range smartphone with 5.5-inch Full HD display. The smartphone comes with a 23MP camera on the rear and the device is powered by the MediaTek P20 octa-core processor. The front camera has an 8MP image sensor. The inbuilt battery of the Xperia XA1 Plus is 3430 mAh and the smartphone weighs 190g.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 will be priced at AED 2199 in the UAE and the preorders will start from September 7th, 2017. The smartphone will be complimented with the Sony XB20 Bluetooth Speaker. The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus will hit the UAE stores by the end of October and priced at AED 1199. However, there is no word yet on the pricing and availability of the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact in the UAE.
