During a special event at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, HMD Global unveiled the first true-Android flagship smartphone, featuring the highest specifications and is only priced at AED 1699. It’s said that the price is aggressively set lower than western countries and is lower than most of the flagship devices in the UAE market. The Nokia 8 also features the world’s first dual-lens ZEISS camera on the rear side. The camera consists of a 13MP color sensor and a 13MP monochrome sensor. The front-facing camera also features a 13MP image sensor with ZEISS optics. The smartphone is also IP54 certified for resisting accidental water splashes. The 5.3-inch IPS display offers QHD resolution and the device comes with Snapdragon 835 under the hood. There is also 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage with the flexibility to expand further with a MicroSD card. The internal battery in the Nokia 8 is 3090 mAh, that can be charged via the USB Type-C port. The Nokia 8 will be available in the UAE from the second week of September 2017. After all the rumors, LG has officially taken the wraps off their latest device, the LG V30, at the IFA 2017 event. The smartphone comes with LG’s 18:9 Full Vision display with super thin bezels and features a 6-inch OLED screen. The resolution of the display is 1440 x 2880. LG has replaced the secondary ticker display with the use of a “Floating Bar” as a software add-on. The LG V30 also supports features such as the Always On mode that showcases the time and notifications when the device is in sleep mode. The device also comes with a great dual-lens camera and features an aperture of F1.6 for the standard 16MP shooter, and an aperture of F1.9 for the 13MP wide-angle snapper. The device comes powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor as well with 4GB RAM, and runs on Android Nougat OS. The LG V30 is expected to be released later this month in the UAE. Samsung has officially unpacked their latest generation of wearables at the IFA 2017 event, which includes the Gear Sport, the Gear Fit2 Pro and the new Gear IconX earbuds. The Samsung Gear Sport has a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display and the smartwatch is powered by a dual-core CPU with 768MB RAM. The internal battery of the device holds a capacity of 300 mAh and also can be wirelessly charged. The Gear Fit2 Pro is an improved version of the existing Fit2 wearable, and features MIL-STD-810G for dust, salt water, and sand resistance and 5ATM depth resistance. The Gear Sport also features the same rugged capabilities. The new Gear IconX (2018) features improved battery life over the predecessor model, offering over 5 hours of Bluetooth streaming, or over four hours of talk time. Each of the earbuds has its own 82 mAh battery and the charging cases hold its own 340 mAh battery for charging on the move. Sony has unveiled a trio of new smartphones at the IFA 2017 in Berlin, one of which marks the return of Sony into the flagship compact smartphone market and the introduction of innovative apps. The Sony Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ1 Compact is powered by the Snapdragon 835 CPU and features 4GB RAM. Both the smartphones come with the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS and feature IP65/68 water and dust resistance. The Xperia XZ1 comes with a 5.2-inch FHD display with HDR support, while the Xperia XZ1 Compact has a 4.6-inch HD display. The Xperia XZ1 weighs only 155g, while the Xperia XZ1 Compact weighs 143g. The new smartphones also offer the 19MP camera that can record up to 960fps slow motion videos. Sony also added a new 3D Creator app that allows users to scan their faces or objects to create 3D stickers or to send the information to 3D printers. Sony also announced a mid-range smartphone called the Xperia XA1 Plus, featuring a 5.5-inch display and with a large 3430 mAh battery. While we all have been reading about the new Android smartphone launches at IFA, Apple is set to announce their latest iPhones and new products on September 12th. The Cupertino company is expected to unveil the Apple iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus, along with the special Anniversary Edition Apple iPhone 8 (there isn’t any official confirmation on the name of the device yet). Some reports confirm that the iPhone 8 may be called as the iPhone X or iPhone Pro. One of the best features of the iPhone 8 is the inclusion of a Samsung-manufactured OLED display with super-thin bezels. The smartphone is also expected to feature a dual-lens camera, wireless charging and more. The iPhone 8 is said to be priced at a price higher than the iPhone 7s. Apple is also rumored to announce the new Apple iPhone SE and the Apple Watch 3. The new wearable will reportedly come with stand-alone app and calling capabilities with LTE connectivity, without the requirement to sync with an iPhone. Read more here.
Nikon, a pioneer in advanced photography products and cameras, has officially unveiled their latest D850 professional DSLR at the Address Hotel in Dubai, UAE. It’s the direct successor to the Nikon D810 and features a 45.7MP full-frame image sensor for unmatched image quality, along with the EXPEED 5 image processor. The camera can shoot up to 9fps in continuous burst mode and the ISO ranges from 64 to 25,600. The Nikon D850 is praised for its superb low-light capability and also offers great 8K time-lapse movie production. The camera’s autofocus system has a 153-point AF system and 99 cross-sensors for achieving the best focus while capturing photos and videos. There is also a 3.2-inch tilting monitor with touch-based controls and the device holds two memory card slots. The Nikon D850 will be released in the UAE for AED 12,999 (body-only).
