Now that most of the Android smartphones are announced for this year, Google has yet to unveil their premium smartphones. The Google Pixel 2 is expected to be announced soon and while not much information is out, a new rumor claims that the device will come with IP68 water resistance and a display that features always-on capability.
The new report comes fresh from the guys at 9to5Google, where they have obtained this information from their trusted sources, along with an alleged image that happens to be blurred out by the online portal for now. Additionally, the report also says that Google will most likely release the Pixel 2 with 64GB as the base model (no more 32GB) and a 128GB model as well. While 9to5Google didn’t show the complete render, they didn’t mind revealing some design aspects, such as the two new dots under the main camera lens, that’s apparently for the “send” and “receive” sensors of the smartphone’s laser AF system.
The smartphone may also not come with its own 3.5mm headphone jack, as the Mountain View company plans to add front-facing speakers on the new successor. Google will apparently be including a USB Type-C adaptor for headphones in the Pixel package. The display is said to be 4.97-inch with 1920 X 1080 resolution (this is, of course, the smaller Pixel and not the XL variant), but the bezels, happens to be the same as last year. It wasn’t long ago when several reports claimed that the new Pixel smartphones would feature a squeeze mode, just as the HTC U11. Speaking of which, rumors also suggest that the new Pixel smartphones may be manufactured by LG. 9to5Google also reports that the smartphone may also feature the unannounced Android 8.1 from the launch time itself. And it may be powered by the Snapdragon 835 or Snapdragon 836 CPU.
When Google announced the Assistant AI, it was exclusive only to the original Google Pixel series for some time, until the update started rolling out to the rest of the branded Android smartphones. Perhaps we could also see new and innovative features of the Google Assistant, that would only be available as an exclusive on the new Pixel 2. It’s also possible that the Google Pixel 2 will come in Slate Gray and Black colors. Prices are not known for now, but it’s believed that the new Pixel device could be more expensive than last year’s model. Google also has yet to make an official debut of their Pixel smartphones in Dubai, UAE, but is available for purchase from local online stores.
