With Xiaomi bringing one of the first bezel-less smartphones in 2016, it’s no doubt that the company will go ahead for the next one when Samsung, LG, and others are already having their own versions for 2017. Xiaomi has now officially unveiled the latest version of its futuristic smartphone called the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, and it features a refined design and thinner bezels than its predecessor.
While the display now features a smaller size of 6-inches as opposed to the 6.4-inch from the original, the aspect ratio has been bumped from 17:9 to 18:9. The only bezel seen is at the bottom which houses the 5MP front facing selfie camera, capable of shooting 1080p videos as well. That said, the resolution of the display is 2160 x 1080. The device measures only 7.7mm thick with its aluminum frame and weigh only 185g for such a device.
The rear panel is ceramic and the main camera holds a 12MP image sensor (16MP was used on the Mi MIX), along with a 18K gold plated ring that surrounds the lens module. While there are lesser megapixels used on the new model, the pixel size of the sensor has been increased to capture more light. The aperture of the lens is rated to be F2.0 and the camera can record videos up to 4K at 30fps.
Powering the new Mi MIX 2 is the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, and it also sports 4GB LPDDR4X RAM, along with storage options of either 64GB, 128GB or 256GB capacities. Xiaomi has also preloaded the device with the newest MIUI 9 with Android 7.0 Nougat. Although, users might need to wait for the Android 8.0 Oreo update for a later point. here is also a special edition Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 that features 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage and a ceramic body.
This new device now packs a large 3400 mAh battery and also gets the support of Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging capability. The fingerprint scanner sits on the rear side as last time and users will still need to depend on the USB Type-C port if they want to connect their wired headphones, or they will need to switch to wireless audio solutions.
While there is no official news regarding the local availability and pricing in the UAE, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 standard version will come in black color, and will be priced at 420 Euros (AED 1854) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model, 460 Euros (AED 2031) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model, 510 Euros (AED 2252) for the 6GB RAM + 256GB storage model, and 700 Euros (AED 3091) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB ceramic model. Stay tuned for more.
