Apple Inc. has officially unveiled their latest generation of iPhone devices called the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, along with the introduction of the iPhone X (termed as iPhone 10). The iPhone 8 series is said to be the direct successor models of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, while the iPhone X is meant to mark the start of advanced technologies and designs, such as bezel-less screens, facial recognition and OLED displays for the iPhone portfolio. The iPhone X has a 5.8-inch OLED display, which covers the entire screen estate, thanks to the bezel-less design. Apple also removed and Touch ID scanner and replaced it with Face ID scanner on the front. The new scanner is capable of mapping the user’s face and recognize in an instant, thanks to the new Apple A11 Bionic processor that features a Neural Engine.
The Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus also features the same processor, and all the three smartphones now support wireless charging. The battery of the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X comes with dual-lens cameras, with the support of new Portrait Studio effect modes. Apple also introduced 4K 60fps video recording capabilities for all three iPhones models. The iPhone X will cost about AED 4099 for the 64GB version and AED 4729 for the 256GB version. The pre-orders for the iPhone X is scheduled to start from October 27th and released on November 4th. Apple also unveiled their latest iteration of smartwatches called the Apple Watch Series 3. Users will be able to make and receive phone calls to friends and family with just the smartwatch, while leaving their iPhones at home or work. The Apple Watch Series 3 also brings support for Apple Music streaming, so users will be able to choose and hear between 40 million songs on the go. The music will be streamed from the smartwatch to the Apple AirPods. The new Apple Watch is also water resistant up to 50m and features a new processor that’s 70% faster than the previous generation. Apple Watch Series 3 now runs on the new WatchOS 4, featuring a refreshed HR application that will show useful insights, such as the heart rate during resting, recovery, walking, and breathing. You will also be able to set up notifications if your heart rate elevates above a specific level. Apple also says that Siri will now respond to users via voice, thanks to the built-in speaker. The Apple Watch Series 3 pre-orders will start from September 15th, with a starting price of AED 1299. However, the model that will come to the UAE will not have LTE capabilities. Samsung Gulf has officially introduced the latest Galaxy Note8 flagship phablet at the Rixos Premium Hotel in JBR, Dubai. The announcement was done along with popular GCC personalities and achievers, including the Creative Director and Entrepreneur, Radio and TV presenter Kris Fade and more. The Galaxy Note8 smartphone features a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with the Infinity Display, that brings more screen estate, thanks to the bezel-less design. The new Galaxy Note8 and the S-Pen is now certified with IP68 for dust and water resistance. The new S-Pen brings new features with improved sensitivity. The new smartphone is also the first in the Note series to feature a 12MP dual-lens camera setup, one of which handles wide-angle photos and the other for telephoto photography. The Live Focus mode allows users to control the depth of field and the Dual Pixel sensor helps for fast and rapid auto focus speed. The Note8 is powered by the Exynos 8895 Octa CPU and coupled with 6GB RAM, along with 64GB of internal storage that’s expandable with a MicroSD card. Earlier this week, Xiaomi had officially announced the Mi MIX 2 smartphone that features a 6-inch bezel-less display, along with the resolution of 2160 x 1080, and the aspect ratio bumped to 18:9. The rear panel of the Mi MIX 2 is made out of ceramic. The rear-facing camera comes with a 12MP image sensor. Xiaomi says that the image sensor can capture more light and the aperture is set at F2.0. The device comes packed with the Snapdragon 835 chip and multitasking with the Android 7.0 based MIUI 9 is going to be smooth, thanks to the 4GB RAM. Although the device was announced internationally a few months ago, the latest Honor 9 premium smartphone was officially launched in the UAE. The device is currently available for pre-orders for AED 1599 from Souq.com, and will be shipping out from the 20th of September. The smartphone comes with a unique design and is sold in two different distinctive colors: Glacier Gray and Sapphire Blue. The smartphone comes with a 5.15-inch display with Full HD resolution. The processor that powers the device is the Kirin 960 and there is 4GB of RAM, running Android 7.0 Nougat OS with the custom EMUI 5.1 skin. While this device offers 64GB of internal storage, there will also be a 128GB model with 6GB RAM onboard. The 128GB Honor 9 is priced at AED 1999. While Google has officially released teasers about the new Pixel smartphone for an October 4th announcement, rumor has it that Google may be in the final stages to acquire HTC’s smartphone business. Despite the positive response of the latest HTC U11 smartphone, HTC faced the lowest decline in their sales last August. According to several reports, Google may be looking to purchase HTC’s mobile division or to collaborate with the mobile brand as a strategic partner. Meanwhile, Google’s upcoming Pixel and Pixel 2 is rumored to be manufactured by LG and is said to be IP68 water resistant with an Always-On display, and the new devices could come with a squeeze function that’s similar to the HTC U11.
