At the JW Marriot Marquis Hotel in Dubai, UAE, Sony Middle East held a media gathering for the official launch of the Xperia XZ1 flagship smartphone and the Xperia XA1 Plus. The new flagship comes with the 3D Creator applications that let you scan a user’s face or objects in 3D.
Sony demonstrated the usage of the 3D Creator by scanning the user’s face and to create an avatar with different ways to dance and move. The user will then be able to use your avatar with the camera as augmented reality and record a video in MP4 format. You can also create 3D stickers or send the scans to a 3D printer. That said, the main camera of the Sony Xperia XZ1 is 19 megapixels Motion Eye shooter and its stacked sensor design allows for 1000fps slow-motion video recording. The front camera of the Sony Xperia XZ1, however, is 13 megapixels.
The smartphone comes with a 5.2-inch with FullHD resolution, and users will now be able to play HDR content with the device. The inbuilt Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen from accidental scratches and drops. Powering the Sony Xperia XZ1 is the latest Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and aided with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. You also get 64GB of internal storage with the freedom to expand further with a MicroSD card.
While the Xperia XZ1 holds a 2700 mAh battery with Quick Charge support via its USB Type-C port, the device weighs only 155g. Other features include a fingerprint scanner atop the side-mounted home button and the device is IP68 certified for dust and water resistant. Sony Xperia XZ1 is one of the first smartphones in the market to come with Android 8.0 out of the box.
Sony also introduced a new mid-range smartphone called the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus, featuring a 5.5-inch Full HD display. While the processor used here is the MediaTek P20 8-core CPU and the device runs Android Nougat OS. The cameras on the device include a 23MP primary shooter on the back panel and looking from the front, you get an 8MP selfie snapper. Sony also packed the Xperia XA1 Plus with a large 3430 mAh battery and the device weighs about 190g.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 is priced at AED 2199 and is available for preorders from all major retailers, and users will be complemented with a Sony XB20 Bluetooth speaker. The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus will be available in the UAE from the end of October and will be priced at AED 1199. On a special note, for those few who are waiting for the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact smartphone, Sony MEA mentioned that they will not be officially launching the device in the UAE, due to lower demand for such a compact form-factor. That said, we will keep a lookout for any online sellers, who will be bringing the device to the region at a later point.
