While most of the companies have unveiled their latest devices in the region, Sony Mobile has officially showcased their latest flagship smartphone called the Xperia XZ1, and the mid-range device called the Xperia XA1 Plus, as a part of an exclusive media event in Dubai. While the Xperia XZ1 packs the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, it’s the first device in the market to run with Android 8.0 Oreo OS. The smartphone also features a 19MP shooter on its rear side that features 1000fps slow motion recording. Sony also added a new 3D Creator application that basically allows users to scan objects or a user’s face in 3D. The scan can be used to create custom avatars for AR capabilities. The scans can also be sent to a 3D printer. The Sony Xperia XZ1 features a 5.2-inch display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, and the battery capacity is 2700 mAh. On the other hand, the Sony Xperia XA1 Plus comes with a larger 5.5-inch display with FHD resolution. Other features of the device include a 3430 mAh battery, an 8MP selfie snapper, a 23MP main shooter and more. The Sony Xperia XZ1 is priced at AED 2199 and the Xperia XA1 Plus for AED 1199. After the release of 4 smartphones that includes the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and the Nokia 8, it appears that HMD Global is getting ready to release another device for the budget smartphone segment. It’s allegedly called the Nokia 2 and is rumored to pack a large 4000 mAh battery onboard. Judging by the numbering, the device could be cheaper than the entry-level Nokia 3. If the rumors hold true, then the Nokia 2 could have the largest battery capacity of all the Nokia devices. While the specifications of the smartphone are yet to be known, an alleged render of the device suggests that it could have a 5-inch screen. But that’s just speculation for now. After what was thought to be a complete takeover, Google has officially announced that they will be acquiring only the HTC’s Pixel team. The new deal includes the transfer of employees from HTC to Google and the license to use HTC intellectual property for the mobile hardware designed at Google. The new deal is said to be complete by next year, after the passing of all the regulatory approvals. Meanwhile, HTC will manufacture their own smartphones. However, HTC’s recent financial results weren’t really satisfactory, despite the fact that their latest HTC U11 flagship smartphone is one of the best high-end Android smartphones in the market. Google, on the other hand, is expected to unveil the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones by the first week of October. Rumors suggest that the new devices are made by HTC, and some reports indicate that the Pixel 2 XL is made by LG. The new devices are hinted to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 processors. A series of render leaks points out that the Google Pixel 2 will come in new colors such as Kinda Blue, Clearly White and Just Black. Read more here.
Following the successful release of BlackBerry KEYone, the company is looking forward to releasing a new, all-screen smartphone, code-named Krypton. That said, it happens so that BlackBerry signed a patent deal with watchmaker Timex for over 40,000 patents. The deal includes sections for wireless communications, acoustics, cybersecurity, networking infrastructure, and more. While these patents don’t reveal anything about a smartwatch, the senior director of Intellectual Property Licensing at BlackBerry stated that the new deal will bring better opportunities to target the mobile communications market. This statement does indeed hint that a smartwatch could be in the making with Timex. Perhaps an Android Wear device with BlackBerry security enhancements and made by Timex themselves? On a personal note, while there are quite a good number of Android Wear smartwatches in the market, none of them does represent anything about the security aspects of these wearables. Since the BlackBerry KEYone and the DTEK series devices are stated to be the most secure Android smartphones, it’s also a good opportunity for the company to create the most secure Android Wear smartwatch.
