Lenovo has officially unveiled the latest generation of the Moto Z series of smartphones, called the Moto Z2 Play and the Moto Z2 Force in the UAE market. The new smartphones feature the latest processors and offer support for a new range of Moto Mods.
Graham Braum, General Manger for Lenovo Mobile Business Group, Middle East, Turkey and Africa, stated: “We are thrilled to be launching the second generation of the Moto Z family. While this precision crafted smartphone is impressive just on its own, Moto Z2 Play and Moto Z2 Force editions instantly transform into a device that caters to the passions of our consumers, when paired with the innovative Moto Mods.”
While both the smartphones feature the same 5.5-inch screen size, the Z2 Play features a resolution of Full HD and the Moto Z2 Force with Quad HD resolution. The panel technology used is also different on both the devices. The Moto Z2 Play features a Super AMOLED display and the Z2 Force comes with a P-OLED screen. To resist accidental drops, the Z2 Play comes with Gorilla Glass 3 and the latter with a shatterproof glass.
Cameras on both the devices are good as well. The Z2 Play comes with a 12MP main shooter with an aperture of F1.7 and the Moto Z2 Force offers a Dual 12MP camera configuration with F2.0 as its aperture. That said, both the smartphones hold a 5MP selfie snapper on the front side, with a modest aperture of F2.2.
When it comes to performance, the Z2 Force is more powerful than the Moto Z2 Play, featuring the Snapdragon 835 chip and 6GB RAM under its all-metal chassis, whereas the Moto Z2 Play comes with the fast and power efficient Snapdragon 626 processor and 4GB RAM. Both these devices run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS, however, there will be a software update rollout for the latest Android 8.0 Oreo in the near future.
Battery wise, the Moto Z2 Play houses a larger battery than its bigger brother, featuring a 3000 mAh battery as compared to the 2730 mAh battery of the Moto Z2 Force. Both the new smartphones support fast charging via its USB Type-C port. That said, it should be noted that among the two new smartphones, the Moto Z2 Force does not feature a 3.5mm audio jack.
Apart from the new smartphones, Lenovo also unveiled a bunch of new Moto Mods called the Moto 360 camera, Moto GamePad, Moto Turbo Power Pack and the SoundBoost 2 Speaker Mod. The new Moto 360 mod can capture 360-degree videos at 4K resolution with a single click. Users will then be able to add content and filter effects with the advanced editing software via the smartphone and can be easily shared with family and friends over social media networks.
The Moto GamePad allows users to attach the Moto Z2 Force/Play and use it like a handheld gaming system. The GamePad features a d-pad and four action buttons to choose. The mod also has its own 1035 mAh battery for prolonged smartphone gaming. The TurboPower Mod is said to add an extra day of battery usage for either of the new smartphones and also supports fast charge up to 15W. The new battery mod is also capable of recharging itself up to 50% in just 20 minutes.
The new Lenovo Moto Z2 Play and the Moto 360 Mod is priced at AED 1999 in the UAE, whereas the Moto Z2 Force and any of the Moto Mods is sold for AED 2699. The Moto 360 Mod costs AED 999, the GamePad for AED 399 and the Turbo Power for AED 299.
