BlackBerry KEY2

It wasn’t a year ago when TCL had announced the BlackBerry KEYone that had won the hearts of many loyal BlackBerry fans. And just when the company had announced the successor of the KEYone last week, the BlackBerry KEY2 is now available for preorders on several online retail stores.

Users will now be able to place orders for the BlackBerry KEY2 in both 64GB and 128GB variants. The 64GB BlackBerry KEY2 comes in a silver color (much like the first BlackBerry KEYone), and for those who want the black color will have to opt for the 128GB model. While the BlackBerry KEY2 Silver with 64GB, costs AED 2399, the 128GB BlackBerry KEY2 Black costs AED 2699. These are the official prices with VAT included. Currently, you can place your orders from Axiom Telecom, Jumbo Electronics, and Souq.com. The order pages on Axiom Telecom and Souq.com specify that the new devices will be available from Saturday 30th June 2018 and 1st July 2018, respectively. If there won’t be any delays, we can conclude that the new smartphones will hit the shelves by the end of the month on all major retailers.

BlackBerry KEY2 Black

Compared to the previous KEYone, the new BlackBerry KEY2 comes with various design improvements and new ways to multitask faster with better typing experience on the move. The new device is thinner and lighter than the previous model, measuring a thickness of 8.5mm and weighing about 168g. You still get that texture back, however, the 4.5-inch IPS display is the same with 1080 x 1620 as the resolution and with 3:2 aspect ratio for the best reading experience. The display is also shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass. The keyboard, which is the main part of the device, now comes with QWERTY keys that are 20% larger for a better typing experience. TCL also added a new useful key called the Speed Key, which basically lets you switch between your desired applications at ease. On the previous model, users had to press and hold a letter to launch the assigned application. But with the KEY2, you will only need to press and hold the Speed Key and the assigned key letter. For example, Speed Key + S opens up Spotify or Skype, based on what you have assigned. Pressing Speed Key + C opens up Google Chrome instantly. The fingerprint scanner still resides on the space bar, which is still a great idea on a keyboard.

TCL has also equipped the KEY2 with the Snapdragon 660 processor that’s more faster and power efficient and supported with 6GB RAM onboard. The new chipset combo runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box, and with the latest BlackBerry security enhancements. Users can also enjoy using the unified BlackBerry Hub application to handle all your accounts. However, the battery of the KEY2, holds a capacity of 3500 mAh, which was the same as the last model.

BlackBerry KEY2 dual camera

That said, you still get support for fast charge and TCL was kind enough to not omit the 3.5mm audio jack on the KEY2. The smartphone also posses a dual 12MP rear camera setup, which is a first from BlackBerry. One of the cameras comes with an aperture of F1.8 and the other with F2.6. And while the new models come in both 64GB and 128GB storage options, users will be able to expand the memory with a MicroSD card. Last but not least, the KEY 2 smartphones that will be released in the UAE, will feature Dual-SIM connectivity.
