While we witnessed the acquisition of Souq.com by Amazon in 2017, we also saw the launch of the $1 billion-dollar e-commerce platform called noon.com in the UAE. The platform, which is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, has announced its partnership with eBay to bring the global marketplace access for customers in UAE.
noon.com will be able to fulfill and deliver all eBay-based orders to the customer’s address, provided that the orders are placed on the noon platform itself. Mohamed Alabbar, the founder of noon.com, said that “noon is connecting the region with the global e-commerce market through our partnership with eBay. With this, we are offering our customers access to products that are not otherwise readily available in the region. As brand from that is from the region, we listen to our customers and tailor the online retail experience to suit their needs. Our partnership with eBay opens a whole new world of shopping experience.”
The new noon.com powered by eBay service will be readily available by the second half of 2018 for UAE and Saudi Arabia. Users will be able to place orders using the dedicated application for smartphones and also through the desktop browser. Customers who buy eBay-based products from noon.com can also have the product returned for a full refund but based on the terms and conditions. Alabbar also added that “E-commerce continuously evolves, and this partnership guarantees noon stays on top of the trends and consumer preferences,” and the brand was careful to “listen to our customers and tailor the online retail experience to suit their needs. Our partnership with eBay opens a whole new world of the shopping experience.”
According to the ‘Middle East B2C E-Commerce Market 2018,’ the combined sales due to the e-commerce partnership, is expected to go higher than double the sales between 2017 and 2020 and reach up to $20 billion.
