The LG G5 is officially announced, features modular expansion and dual cameras

UPDATE: The LG G5 officially launches in the UAE region. The smartphone is priced at AED 2499. However, the prices of the LG G5 Friends based accessories are yet to be revealed.

Finally, LG has unveiled the LG G5 flagship smartphone at the MWC 2016 event. The smartphone now has an all-metal body; which LG calls it the “fluid metal” for its seamless shape. The new feature of this product is its ability to upgrade itself with modular accessories.

First off, LG calls this new series of G5 modular accessories as the “G5 Friends”. The bottom of the smartphone is removable. So you can add-in more modules for more capability.

One module called the LG CAM Plus actually features a grip like design, coupled with a massive 4000 mAh battery. This add-on will indeed provide more battery life for all your long lasting photography sessions.

The second modular component called the “Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play” that’s meant to provide higher quality audio with the help of built in DAC’s and Amplifiers.

All that said, the LG G5 now features a dual-camera setup on the rear side. One with a 16MP sensor joined with a 78-degree lens system, and the other 8MP sensor is joined by a wide 135-degree wide angle lens. There also lies the home button on the rear, which also houses the fingerprint scanner. The display is 5.3-inches in size, but with Quad HD resolution.

As for performance, the G5 is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor, along with 4GB DDR4 RAM. Snapdragon 820 is claimed to offer double the speed and efficiency as compared to previous designs.

The standard battery is also rated to be 2800 mAh capacity. The local release date and pricing are yet to be announced.
